Luggage Dimensions

Luggage dimensions are extremely important when selecting luggage for your travel needs, as most airlines have strict sizing restrictions on their carry-on bags. With limited wriggle room in the overhead bins, cabin baggage must be small enough to fit safely into the bins and streamline the boarding process.

In general, domestic airlines have a suitcase size limit of up to 22 x 14 x 9 inches (length + width + height). International carriers typically have more stringent limits that are often measured in linear inches, which take into account all external pockets and protrusions like handles and tags, giving you a single number to compare with the airline’s bag requirements.

When shopping for the best luggage to meet your requirements, look for suitcases with an internal capacity of 25 to 50 litres. This should provide ample space for clothes and other essentials for a week-long trip to Europe or wherever you’re heading. Additionally, select a suitcase that has efficient internal organisation features to make packing your trip as easy as possible.

To determine the suitcase sizes of any luggage you’re considering, simply measure it with a tape measure from one edge to the other, including all external pockets and protrusions. Always check that you’re measuring in linear inches, which is the total length, width and height of your luggage. Remember to include the full length of any retractable handles, as this can add an extra few inches to the overall measurement.
